Different venue but a similar outcome?
King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah will host this year’s Italian Super Coppa. The finals venue shifts every few years with this years one to be played in Saudi Arabia. The venue is different but the teams know each other very well. Match will start at 18:30 CET and it’s marked with numerous interesting storylines.
How does Higuain perform against his old team? How does Milan’s one season wonder in Bonucci approach a match against the team he captained only a few months ago? Does Cristiano Ronaldo continue to be a menace in cup finals?
All those questions are valid ones expect the one regarding the end result. Many consider this to be a match where Juventus will once again prove that they rule over Italy.
Milan enters this match after a good showing against a tough Sampdoria team in the Coppa Italia two days ago. Despite it being a good performance from Gattuso’s side they still had issues. Goal scoring remains a problem for them despite creating quite a few chances as their winning goals came in overtime when fatigue became a factor. Juventus, on the other hand, enter this contest after an easy victory against a Bologna squad. In that contest, Juventus featured an eleven man squad without Ronaldo or Dybala but still displayed a dominant performance never letting the end result be in doubt.
This match will be a lot tougher than the previous one. Historically speaking Milan have always been the Old Ladies biggest rival who always play them tough. This contest will prove to be the same, as on top of it being a match against their biggest rival, it will also offer something AC Milan has lacked for many years: trophies. Juventus will surely miss Mario Mandzukic in this contest as he is unavailable. He is set to be replaced by either Douglas Costa or Federico Bernardeschi after both had a good showing against Bologna, especially the latter one. Their attack will feature Cristiano Ronaldo who has been on a tear in Cup final matches for many years past.
On the other hand, Milan enters this match in good form, without any injuries but with the same issues looming over them. They are going against the best defence in Italian football this season and with how lacklustre their attack looked like this season, scoring goals will be difficult. Patrick Cutrone is one bright spot on which Gattuso might rely again as he’s the only one capable of scoring any goals lately.
Fans shouldn’t expect a high-scoring match as both this will emphasise not conceding first. Juventus have the edge both in terms of quality as well as manager prowess. Juventus should win, but it won’t be easy as we’ll surely witness a match worthy of a final.
