One of the most classical Bundesliga derby ongoing for decades is the match between Bayern and Schalke. That is what expects us on Saturday.
Bayern enters this game after a brutal loss against Bayer Leverkusen in a match where they not only led but should have won especially when we compare the quality of players representing each team.
Before this match, they will a tough match in the DFB Pokal against a Hertha team that might present itself difficult to beat. Bayern is exceptional this season, everybody knows that.
Every couple of seasons Bayern have an offseason where they play poorly the whole season. Usually, in the past, it was linked to the quality of the Manager and while Niko Kovač is not an unfamiliar name, his managerial prowess is not considered at the top end in Europe.
On the other, we have a Schalke team who enter this game in a very bad mood. These past weeks have been marked by rather poor play especially going forward because they struggle heavily when it comes to scoring goals while their defence has been bad.
It’s not a good formula if you want to win and it won’t get any easier when they travel to Bavaria later this week. Before that, they will deal with Fortuna in the DFB cup which is a good opponent if they are looking to build some momentum going into this match.
Despite the struggling of Bayern this season they have always enjoyed success against Schalke and this match should be no different. They are the better team, they play at home and they play against a team that has been playing really bad these past weeks. If they are looking to get out of their slump this is the match to do it.
